Terms of Use

The terms that govern your use of the MyVoice app.

These terms of use apply to the MyVoice app (the "Application") for mobile devices, created by Thomas Ford (the "Service Provider") as a Freemium service.

By downloading or using the Application, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully before using the Application. If you do not agree, do not use the Application.

1. Intellectual property

Unauthorised copying or modification of the Application, any part of the Application, or its trademarks is strictly prohibited. Attempting to extract the source code, translate the Application into other languages, or create derivative versions is not permitted. All trademarks, copyrights, database rights, and other intellectual property rights relating to the Application remain the property of the Service Provider.

2. The service

MyVoice is a text-to-speech (TTS) and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) application. It lets you type text and have it spoken aloud, save phrases, and customise voice settings.

  • Cloud voices. The Application's premium AI voices are generated by a cloud voice service. When you use one, the text you ask the Application to speak is sent over the internet to the Service Provider's backend and its voice provider to create the audio. All voices on iPhone are cloud voices.
  • On-device voices (Android only). Voices provided by your device's text-to-speech engine run on your device and do not use your character allowance.
  • Plans and allowances. Cloud voices are subject to a monthly character allowance that depends on your plan:
    • Free: 3,000 characters per month; audio downloads not included
    • Lite: 200,000 characters per month; audio downloads included
    • Standard: 500,000 characters per month; audio downloads included
    • Premium: 1,000,000 characters per month; audio downloads included

Allowances reset at the start of each calendar month (UTC). Unused characters do not carry over. When you reach your allowance, cloud voices stop until the allowance resets or you upgrade. The Service Provider may change the Free plan's allowance and will show the current allowance in the Application.

The Service Provider is dedicated to making the Application as beneficial and efficient as possible. It reserves the right to modify the Application, its features, or its plans, or to introduce charges for services. Any charges will be clearly communicated to you before they apply.

3. Subscriptions and billing

  • Paid plans (Lite, Standard, Premium) are monthly subscriptions purchased in the Application through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account. The price shown by the store at the time of purchase applies.
  • Free trials. Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. A reduced character allowance may apply during the trial.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Cancellation. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the Application does not cancel a subscription. After cancellation you keep paid access until the end of the current period.
  • Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google under their terms, and refund requests are handled by them. The Service Provider does not offer refunds for unused portions of a subscription period, except where required by law.
  • Price changes. If a subscription price changes, Apple or Google will notify you as their rules require, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

4. Your responsibilities and acceptable use

It is your responsibility to keep your device, and access to the Application, secure. How the Service Provider handles data is described in the Privacy Policy.

The Service Provider strongly advises against jailbreaking or rooting your device. These actions remove software restrictions imposed by the official operating system, which could expose your device to malware and compromise its security features. They may also stop the Application working correctly or at all, including failing the device checks that cloud voices require.

You agree to use the Application only for lawful purposes and not to:

  • generate or transmit speech or content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or hateful;
  • use the Application's voices to impersonate a real person or to mislead others about who is speaking, including for fraud or scams;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Application;
  • attempt to bypass usage allowances, device verification, or other technical limits, or access the voice service other than through the Application;
  • attempt to disrupt or overload the Service Provider's servers or infrastructure;
  • resell or sublicense access to the service, or use generated audio in a way that breaches these terms or the law.

The Service Provider may suspend or limit access to cloud voices if these terms are breached.

5. Important: AAC and safety

The Application is a communication aid. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition. Do not rely on the Application as your only means of communicating in an emergency. Cloud voices need an internet connection and an available voice service, and any app can fail because of device, battery, network, or software problems. Make sure you have another way to call for help, such as a written card, a phone call or emergency text service, or a backup device.

6. Third-party services

The Application uses third-party services with their own terms:

7. Internet connection and data charges

Some functions of the Application, including all cloud voices, require an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data). The Service Provider cannot be held responsible if the Application does not work fully because you have no internet access or have used up your data allowance.

If you use the Application outside a Wi-Fi area, your mobile network provider's terms apply. You may incur data charges, including roaming charges if you use the Application outside your home territory without turning off data roaming. By using the Application, you accept responsibility for any such charges. If you are not the bill payer for the device, the Service Provider assumes you have the bill payer's permission.

8. Availability and no warranty

The Application is provided "as is" and "as available". The Service Provider does not guarantee that the Application or its cloud voices will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available, or that any voice will remain available. Voices are supplied by third parties and may change or be withdrawn. It is your responsibility to keep your device charged so you can use the Application.

9. Limitation of liability

While the Service Provider strives to keep the Application updated and accurate, it relies on third parties for parts of the service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service Provider accepts no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, resulting from reliance on the Application, and is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Application.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Updates and termination

The Service Provider may update the Application at any time. Operating system requirements may change, and you may need to download updates to keep using the Application. The Service Provider does not guarantee that the Application will always be updated to stay compatible with your device or operating system version.

The Service Provider may stop providing the Application, or end your use of it, at any time. Unless the Service Provider tells you otherwise, on termination (a) the rights and licences granted to you under these terms end, and (b) you must stop using the Application and, if necessary, delete it from your device.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or outside the UK, you keep any mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring proceedings in your local courts that your local law gives you.

12. Changes to these terms

The Service Provider may update these terms from time to time. Changes are posted on this page and take effect when posted. Significant changes will be highlighted in the Application where practical. Continued use of the Application after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are effective as of 14 October 2026.
