Privacy Policy

How MyVoice collects, uses, and protects your data.

This privacy policy applies to the MyVoice app ("Application") for mobile devices, created by Thomas Ford ("Service Provider") as a Freemium service. This service is intended for use "AS IS".

Information collection and use

The Application collects certain information automatically when you download and use it:

  • your device's IP address, used to connect to our services;
  • an anonymous user ID, created when you first open the Application without needing a name, email or sign-in, which links your monthly usage allowance and subscription status to your device;
  • on Android, if you choose to sign in with Google: the email address, name and profile photo of your Google account, stored with your user ID by Google Firebase so your subscription can follow you to a new device (see Optional Google sign-in);
  • your monthly character usage for premium voices;
  • your operating system and device type;
  • if you opt in to analytics, how you use the Application's features, with timestamps (see Analytics).

The Service Provider uses this information to operate, maintain and improve the Application, to send important service-related notices, and to send the reminder notification described under Notifications.

Data stored only on your device

The following is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to the Service Provider's servers:

  • Saved and favourite phrases
  • Voice preferences, speed, pitch, and other customisation settings

On Android, these may be included in your device's own backup to your Google account if backup is turned on. The Service Provider cannot access that backup.

Text you type

What happens to text you type depends on the voice that speaks it.

  • Premium voices (all voices on iPhone, and premium voices on Android): the text you ask the Application to speak is sent off your device to be turned into speech. See Premium voice synthesis below.
  • On-device voices (Android only): the text stays on your device.

Text you type but don't ask the Application to speak is never sent.

Premium voice synthesis

When a premium voice speaks, the text is sent over a secure, authenticated connection to our backend (Google Firebase) and then to our voice provider, Inworld AI, solely to generate the spoken audio. Only the text is sent: never your name, contact details or other personal identifiers.

The Service Provider does not store the text you speak. Our backend records only how many characters were spoken, for your monthly allowance.

The same applies when you download a phrase as an audio file: the text is sent the same way to create the audio, and the file is saved on your device.

Inworld handles the text under its own privacy policy, which may include storing it and using it to improve its AI services. Please don't enter sensitive personal information. On iPhone, where every voice is a premium voice, the Application asks for your agreement before any text is sent to Inworld, and this agreement is required to use the Application. On Android, the Application explains this when you set it up; text is sent only when you use a premium voice, and on-device voices keep your text on your device.

Analytics

The Application uses Mixpanel to understand how its features are used so the Service Provider can improve it. Analytics are off until you agree to them, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings.

When analytics are on, Mixpanel receives:

  • events such as "speech started" or "paywall viewed", with details like text length (never the text itself);
  • a random ID created for this installation;
  • a one-way hash of your anonymous user ID;
  • your device type, app version, and an approximate location (city and country) that Mixpanel derives from your IP address.

The data is processed in the EU and is not used for advertising or shared with data brokers.

Device verification

To protect our services from abuse, the Application uses Firebase App Check to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the Application on a genuine device. This uses Apple App Attest on iPhone and Google Play Integrity on Android. These services confirm the app and device are genuine. They don't give the Service Provider any personal information.

Optional Google sign-in (Android)

On Android you can choose to sign in with your Google account, for example to restore a subscription on a new device. If you do, Google Firebase stores your Google account's email address, name and profile photo with your user ID. Signing in is optional: the Application works without it.

Crash reports (Android)

To find and fix problems, the Android app sends crash reports to Firebase Crashlytics. A report contains technical details such as the error, your device model, operating system and app version, a random installation ID, and short notes about which part of the Application was in use (for example, "purchase started"). Crash reports never include the text you type, your name or your user ID.

Notifications

The Application may send one reminder notification if you haven't used it for a while, to help you get started again. It is delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging using a notification token stored with your anonymous user ID. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's settings.

Third-party access

The Application uses these service providers:

  • Inworld AI: premium voice synthesis.
  • Google Firebase: backend infrastructure, anonymous and optional Google sign-in, device verification (App Check), notifications (Cloud Messaging) and crash reports on Android (Crashlytics).
  • Apple App Attest (iPhone) and Google Play Integrity (Android): device verification.
  • Google Play Services: Android sign-in.
  • Mixpanel: analytics, only if you opt in.

The Service Provider may also disclose information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process;
  • when necessary in good faith to protect rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, or to investigate fraud;
  • with trusted service providers who work on the Service Provider's behalf, are bound by this policy, and have no independent right to use the disclosed information.

Service providers process your data only as needed to provide their service to the Application, and protect it with the same or equal protection described in this policy. Inworld AI receives the text you ask a premium voice to speak and handles it under its own privacy policy, which may include storing it and using it to improve its AI services; it does not receive your name, contact details or other identifiers.

Subscriptions and billing

Subscriptions and in-app purchases are managed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). The Service Provider never sees your payment details. To confirm your subscription, the Service Provider stores your subscription status, plan, renewal date and the store's order or transaction reference (for Google Play, the order ID and purchase token; for the App Store, the original transaction ID) with your user ID.

Opt-out rights

You can stop all collection of information by uninstalling the Application using the standard uninstall process on your device or via the app marketplace. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the Application's Settings, and turn off notifications in your device's settings.

Data retention

The Service Provider will retain automatically collected data for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter.

  • Usage and subscription records (stored against your anonymous user ID): kept while you use the Application. They are deleted on request.
  • Backend request logs: deleted after 30 days. They never contain the text you speak.
  • Analytics events: kept by Mixpanel for the Service Provider's plan retention period, and deleted on request.
  • Text sent to Inworld: not stored by the Service Provider. Inworld's retention is set out in its privacy policy.

To ask for any data linked to your use of the Application to be deleted, contact support@myvoiceapp.org. So the right records can be found, include the user ID shown in Settings on iPhone, or on Android the Google account you signed in with, if any. The Service Provider will respond within a reasonable time-frame.

Children

The Application is not directed at anyone under the age of 13. The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If the Service Provider discovers that a child under 13 has provided personal information, it will be deleted immediately from their servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, please contact support@myvoiceapp.org.

Security

The Service Provider takes the confidentiality of your information seriously and provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information it processes and maintains.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The Service Provider will notify you of changes by updating this page. Continued use of the Application constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. This policy is effective as of 14 Oct 2026.

Your consent

By using the Application, you consent to the processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.
